White County Trial Courts
Indiana's court system has trial courts and appellate courts. The Indiana Judicial Branch identifies trial courts as circuit courts, superior courts, and local city or town courts. White County's local trial courts are White Circuit Court and White Superior Court. The existing filename for this page remains district-court.html, but White County does not have a local trial-level District Court.

Appeals from trial-court judgments generally move into Indiana's appellate system, which includes the Court of Appeals of Indiana, Indiana Supreme Court, and Indiana Tax Court. Federal district and bankruptcy courts are separate systems and are not White County trial courts.

White County Court Table
White County has two primary local trial courts for court records, filings, hearings, and local case routing. Both publish mailing addresses using P.O. Box 350 in Monticello, and both use the same clerk fax number. The Clerk's Office is the practical records counter at the Government Center on North Main Street.

White County Court Comparison

Indiana allows city or town courts where created by local law, but the White County record map for this project centers on Circuit Court, Superior Court, and the Clerk of the Circuit Court. This comparison uses Indiana lower-court facts without inventing a White County local court that was not identified.

This is the main reason a White County trial court search should not be framed as a District Court search. Indiana federal courts use district labels, but local White County cases use Indiana trial-court labels.
White County Case Flow
White County local rules allocate the case first. After filing, the docket and orders follow the assigned court, although local rules allow judges to sit in either court for judicial economy, expediency, or good cause. A case assigned to one White County court can still involve judicial action by the other judge under that rule.

Local courtroom decorum also matters. White County local rules restrict cell phones and other personal electronic devices in White Circuit and White Superior Courts except for counsel, litigants using them for court-approved needs, or another purpose granted by the court.
White County Case Allocation
The strongest local court detail is the 2026 case allocation rule. It sends criminal, infraction, ordinance, expungement, and post-conviction cases to White Superior Court. Small claims, evictions, and red-flag cases also go to Superior Court. Juvenile, domestic relations, adoption, estate, guardianship, mental health, protective order, reciprocal support, trust, and administrative-review matters go to White Circuit Court.
Several civil case types may be filed in either court: civil plenary, mortgage foreclosure, civil collection, civil tort, and civil miscellaneous. That means a civil court record search should check the case number and court entry rather than assuming one civil venue. The Clerk is the best contact for filing questions and official copies across both courts.
The local rules also establish White County Veterans Treatment Court under Indiana problem-solving court authority, with day-to-day operation and management assigned to White Circuit Court. The White County Probation Department provides probation services for adults and juveniles under both courts and lists a Court Drug & Alcohol Program Director.
White County Federal Courts
Federal court records are separate from White County court records. A federal criminal case, federal civil case, bankruptcy, federal habeas matter, tax matter, or federal prosecution tied to White County will not appear in White County MyCase just because the event or party has a local connection. Federal dockets are searched through PACER and CM/ECF, with some free opinion and docket materials available through CourtListener.
White County is in the Northern District of Indiana for federal district and bankruptcy matters. Federal statutory geography places White County in the Hammond Division, with court held at Hammond and Lafayette for that division. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana lists locations at Fort Wayne, Hammond, South Bend, and Lafayette, although the Lafayette office was marked closed on the court-location page reviewed.
